1100 Cathedral Street

Back to All Work

Dating back to the 1800’s, the structure had been many things. A stable, tire factory, car dealership and even a brothel. The most recent 1970’s alterations left the historic details hidden but preserved behind drywall, shag carpet, and faux brick. Details and components of an early-century car dealership left a lasting mark on the building. The new lobby features a large pivoting glass door, once allowing cars to be driven into the front lobby for display. The new rear stair, used by tenants on the upper level, was built atop the remains of a non-functioning antique car elevator which moved additional cars upstairs for storage. The design tactfully incorporates the historic details but also brings a minimal aesthetic and simple material palette to create a hands-on collaborative workplace.
